“The university becomes […] the site where it is still known what cinema has meant and a site where the roots of the audiovisual future lie. This is both a cultural and moral task.”
-- Emile Poppe in “De Onschatbare Waarde van de Filmarchieven,” in E-View 2 (2004).
The Film Archive strives for active usage of film material by students as well as educational staff and researchers, so that the material is indeed used for education and research. The archive does so in different manners. For instance, viewings and film projections are being organized, hands-on education is offered, and the archive facilitates an ongoing investigation to ‘Versus,’ the devices in the archive, the poster, and other sub collections.
